About PNCA

Located on an award-winning campus in the heart of Portland’s Pearl District, PNCA is one of a handful of West Coast institutions accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Founded in 1909, Pacific Northwest College of Art is an independent visual arts college offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. PNCA strives to prepare students for sustained creative achievement throughout their lives, to strengthen their ability to interpret the conditions and events shaping the world, and to prepare them to engage that world and its cultures with understanding and integrity.

In 2007, PNCA established Ford Institute for Visual Education (FIVE) to support innovative advanced programs, exhibitions, symposia, outreach activities, and artists-in-residence. Through FIVE, PNCA is able to seek and secure collaborations between students, international artists, and the region’s art, design, and business communities. Since 2006, PNCA has more than doubled its undergraduate enrollment and has added five Graduate Studies programs. Enrollment is currently around 600 students; the strategic goal is to reach 1,000 students through the addition of new BFA and MFA programs. The College is expanding its facilities through the renovation of an historic 130,000 sq. ft. building a short distance from its main campus building.
