Evening Courses:

The Art of the Lens: Aesthetics the Market Date: March 14, March 21, March 28, April 2 (Saturday), April 4, April 11 Time: Mondays, 6:30 – 8:00 pm

With photography continuing to have a growing presence in private and public collections, this course highlights major movements and key figures in 20th and 21st century practice, and includes a preview of Sotheby’s spring photography auction.

Legal Perspectives: The Life Cycle of a Work of Art

Date: March 29, April 5, 12, 26, May 3, 10 (No class April 19)
Time: Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:00 pm

Gain a solid understanding of important art law concepts that are a must for artists, collectors, dealers, curators and anyone else involved in the art world.

Introduction to Contemporary Art: 1990 to Today
Dates: March 29, April 5, 12, 26, May 3, 10 (No class April 19)

In the past fifty years contemporary art has grown to be a dynamic, exciting field of study. From photography and objects to moving images and installations, develop a greater understanding of what is currently happening in the contemporary art world.

The Art of Collecting

The practice of collecting is demystified in this course which serves as an introduction for new or aspiring collectors. Examine a variety of important elements to be considered when starting your own collection.

Art Finance: Where Two Worlds Meet

With the ever-increasing interest in investment in fine art, this timely and informative course explores the use and performance of fine art as a financial asset. Day Courses:

The Gallery Business: New Trends in New York

Get a first-hand view of the current state of the New York gallery business, examining market shifts such as contemporary art’s migration from uptown to downtown and the recent rise of the Lower East Side galleries.

Explore the world of fine jewelry and the upcoming Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction, during a series of private visits, lectures and previews. Students will also attend the sale with the instructor.

Navigating the Chinese Contemporary Art Market

Time: Friday, 10:00am–4:00pm
Where is the market for Chinese contemporary art headed next? This course examines the recent history and future prospects for this constantly evolving market alongside the careers of leading artistic voices of the Chinese avant-garde.
