Also in the framework of the International Comics Festival, ÉESI is organising a series of talks. Three of these will be given in the Pavillon Jeunes Talents, where students and former students and teachers from the school will be invited to discuss the position of comics and graphic novels in art school teaching and the resources available to students wishing to work in this world. The first talk will bring together members of the authors’ collectives Na, L’imprimante, Anathème, Café Creed and Polystyrène, all of which originated at ÉESI, to discuss this kind of structure, which provides an essential platform for young authors seeking to publish their work. Guillaume Trouillard will describe how he came to create Les éditions de la Cerise after graduating from the school. Finally, two ÉESI alumni, Johanna Schipper and Laureline Mattiussi, who now teach the graphic novel and comics art themselves, will talk about their time at the school and how they went from there to wanting to teach their practice.

The last talk will be given at the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée by Paul Karasik. He will present his collaboration with David Mazzucchelli on the complex job of adapting a Paul Auster novel to graphic format. Finally, on Sunday afternoon ÉESI will screen a selection of the best animation films by students, including Théorie des perturbations by Cindy Bertet (shown last summer at the evening of 3D films organised by Magelis), Tapis roulant by Ju Hyoung Lee (selected at the Rencontres Henri Langlois in 2010), and Pianocktail by Élisabeth Boisson (First Prize at the “hors normes” film competition organised for the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Géode cinema in Paris).
