KonstfackFinal date for applications 30 April 2010
Konstfack offers programmes and research in the arts, design and crafts, as well as teacher education in the arts. As a research subject ‘crafts’ (konsthantverk) should be regarded as an interdisciplinary field that embraces both artistic production and theoretical reflection.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a master’s degree in fine arts or an equivalent academic qualification and be able to demonstrate a firm grounding in artistic practice. In addition applicants must be able to demonstrate the capacity to produce analytical text, i.e. they should be able to articulate their reflections on the artistic process and also contextualise their own work. The form taken by the presentation of research findings must include a creative element as well as analytical text about the process involved.
In making appointments to a doctoral studentship primary consideration must be given to the candidate’s ability to benefit from third-cycle study. Those appointed to doctoral studentships must devote most of their time to their studies but they may be required to assist in teaching or other institutional activities to a limited extent. Duties of this kind may not comprise more than 20 per cent of a full time post.
Applications must include:
– A Curriculum Vita with certified copies of grades and other documents corroborating eligibility and academic qualifications as well anything else the applicant wishes to have considered.
– A master’s degree thesis or a master’s degree project (written element and documentation of the artistic production).
– Documentation of artistic production (no more than 8 productions. Documentation of works and digitals work may be submitted on a DVD or CD with a maximum playing time of 3 minutes per work or documentation).
– A thesis proposal (ca. 15,000 characters), describing the artistic area in which the applicant wishes to undertake research as well as the methodology/approach. Indicate as well the material (artistic/empirical) that may be used and why it is important to undertake this research at Konstfack.
– The names of two referees (with telephone numbers and e-mail addresses).
We welcome applications for doctoral studentships from licentiate students and/or students who may already have begun a doctoral studentship elsewhere but wish to change direction. The studentship will begin on 1 September 2010.
The appointment is for four years of full-time study and leads to the award of a Doctorate in the Fine, Applied or Performing Arts in Crafts.
