The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses and supervising postgraduate research, and should be conversant with both Contemporary Art Theory and History of Art. Familiarity with developments in the area of Curatorship and a proven track record of teaching and research in African and/or Asian Art would be an advantage.
The successful applicant must have at least a Master’s degree with proven research capacity and publication outputs, while a PhD is essential for the more senior positions. The ability to supervise postgraduate research projects is essential and candidates appointed at the senior levels must be prepared to assume the role of Head of Department if nominated.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to apply for funding to pursue his or her own research projects. A start-up grant enables new staff to launch their research programmes.

Appointment will take place at the appropriate level in alignment with the Faculty’s criteria for promotion. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
