The successful candidate will be responsible for both teaching undergraduate courses and supervising postgraduate research, and should be conversant with both traditional and contemporary painting media. Familiarity with developments in digital technologies, for example Videography and postproduction software, or areas such as Curatorship, would be an advantage.
The School recognises the interdisciplinary nature of much contemporary art and while expertise in painting is a prerequisite, we would welcome applicants who understand these shifts and who would take the opportunity to develop and extend emerging trends and new innovations in contemporary fine art practice.
The successful applicant must have at least an MFA (or equivalent) with proven research capacity and an exhibition record attesting to their understanding of contemporary art discourse, while a PhD would strengthen candidature. The ability to supervise postgraduate research projects is essential and candidates appointed at the senior levels must be prepared to assume the role of Head of Department if nominated.
The Painting section of the School includes workshops and studios, as well as access to the School’s digital labs. The successful applicant will be allocated studio space and be encouraged to apply for funding for his or her own creative work. A start-up grant enables new staff to launch their research programmes.
