Sydney College of the Arts (SCA) is the visual arts faculty of the University of Sydney. The SCA Graduate School was established in 2007 and positions SCA at the forefront of contemporary art graduate programs in Australia and internationally. The School delivers a range of professional development Masters degrees in documentary photography, film and digital image, interactive and digital media, and studio art. The School also offers a research Masters and PhD program in contemporary visual art.

The Director of the SCA Graduate School, Associate Professor Brad Buckley will host a Postgraduate Information evening on Wednesday May 14, 6 – 8pm, at Sydney College of the Arts. For further information on this event please email [email protected]

Current Students and Alumni

SCA students and alumni participate in national and international exhibitions. David Haines and Joyce Hinterding represented Australia at the 2004 Bienal de Sao Paulo. Shaun Gladwell and Rosemary Laing were selected by Robert Storr for the 2007 Venice Benniale. Marc Newson had a solo show in 2007 at Gagossian Galleries in New York. Tony Schwensen has recently been appointed to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Faculty

The faculty at SCA is highly active across a wide range of contemporary areas from new media, installation and painting, and object design to twentieth century art history and cultural theory. SCA academic staff include; Professor Colin Rhodes; Professor Richard Dunn; Professor Ross Gibson; Associate Professor Brad Buckley; Dr Debra Dawes; Dr Lindy Lee; Dr Adam Geczy; Dr Ann Elias; and Dr Eril Baily.

The Programs

The Graduate School offers four one-year Coursework Masters:

Master of Documentary Photography (MDP)
Master of Film and Digital Image (MFDI)
Master of Interactive and Digital Media (MIDM)
Master of Studio Art (MSA)

The Graduate School offers two Research Degrees:

Master of Visual Arts (MVA)
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Artists working across a wide range of disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Applications for July 08 coursework masters, close May 30
Applications for March 09 research degrees and coursework masters, close October 31
Late applications are considered on a case-by-case basis
