Master of Arts in Arts Management

Knowledge and skills
During this Master’s course, you will develop knowledge and skills in the area of:
– creation
– production
– distribution
– project management
– research methods
– strategic management

On completion of the MA AM programme, you will be able to point out and create opportunities on the basis of a broad knowledge of various domains and sectors of the creative industry. This combination of knowledge and skills will enable you to optimally realise your own cultural mission. The project-based education will bring you into intensive contact with both theory and the professional field.

Pathways
There are six pathways (domains) to choose from:
– Events
– Media
– Music
– Theatre
– Visual Arts and Design

Facts
– starts at the beginning of September and lasts for 48 weeks full-time;
– English-language education;
– practice-based research;
– project-based education, based on issues from the professional field, with taught elements;
– recognised MA degree in all countries that accept English degrees and certificates;
– accredited by the Open University Validation Services London UK;
– location: Utrecht – the Netherlands;
– tuition fee: 8,225 Euros for the academic year 2008/2009.

Project-based education
The basis of this full-time English-language programme is formed by project-based education in which you will broaden your potential by doing projects and research for professional clients. This type of education is supported by a strong theoretical basis that provides a framework for each project. By carrying out projects for a variety of clients, you will widen your network and doors will open to you that would otherwise have remained closed.

Programme
In the first four months of the course you will work in teams on one to three projects. This is followed by a two-month intensive theoretical block. In the final six months, you will set up and work on an individual project within one of the six pathways.

Job opportunities
On completion of the MA AM programme, you will be ready to start in a variety of management positions. Examples of possible jobs within the creative industry are:
– production assistant with a gallery or design agency;
– commercial assistant with a media firm or record label;
– creative, project or account manager with a communications firm or advertising agency;
– company manager for dance events or festival organisations;
– tour manager of a dance or theatre company.

You can apply until April 1st, 2008. If you are from abroad, please apply well in advance of the deadline, because of the time you need to process a visa application.
