Geologic Time

This Banff International Curatorial residency asks: How might a geologic lens affect artistic and curatorial practice? This program of fieldwork, seminars, and independent study will ponder geological formations and stratigraphy, minerals, and resource extraction to speculate about a more expansive, slower and longer-term view of art, exhibitions, and their institutions.
Independent Residency—September 2017

The Independent Residency in Visual + Digital Arts provides time and space for artists, curators, and arts professionals to create, research, experiment, and cultivate new directions in their work. In addition to a private studio space and shared facility use, artists are surrounded by a community of artistic peers and have the opportunity to attend inspiring talks and performances by world-renowned visiting artists, all within Banff Centre’s spectacular mountain setting.
Collections Practicum—Walter Phillips Gallery
April 27, 2017–April 27, 2018

This hands-on opportunity allows an individual to work with the Walter Philips Gallery’s director and curator. The participant will receive direct mentorship on collections management practices and registrar duties that support the gallery’s collection of over 1,200 works.
Indigenous Curatorial Research Practicum—Walter Phillips Gallery

The Indigenous Curatorial Research Practicum is designed for emerging curators to enhance knowledge, build day-to-day administrative skills, and provide work experience in the area of arts administration.
Preparatorial Practicum

The Walter Phillips Preparatorial Practicum program enables the participant to engage in hands-on opportunities working alongside the gallery’s curator and preparatory.
Visual + Digital Arts programs at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity offer opportunities for artists to engage with world-renowned faculty and peers to gain new insights into the development of their work.
