The Board of Trustees of the Fundació Joan Miró announces an international search for new director

The Board of Trustees of the Fundació Joan Miró has announced an international search for the future director of the Fundació Joan Miró. The term for receiving applications began on June 12 and will end on July 21, 2017. The new director will be in charge of developing the strategic lines adopted and previously implemented at the Fundació Joan Miró and assume its artistic and executive direction.

A Search Committee will assess the professional merits of the candidates, their knowledge of the work of Joan Miró, as well as the achievements and distinctions endorsing their careers, their knowledge of the local and international cultural and artistic scene, and their capacity for programming, leadership, motivation, financial management and representation of the institution.

The Search Committee is comprised of Ferran Barenblit, director of the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA); Brigitte Léal, Associate Director of the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Anne Umland, The Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York; Miguel Zugaza, Director of the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao and former Director of the Museo del Prado, Madrid; and the following members of the Board of Trustees of the Fundació Joan Miró: Jaume Freixa, Josep M. Coronas, Joan Punyet Miró and Rosa Maria Malet. The committee will interview the shortlisted candidates and announce their final decision to the Board of Trustees. The Board’s decision shall be final.

The Fundació Joan Miró is a private organization governed by a Board of Trustees composed of representatives from Joan Miró’s circle, the art world, the corporate sector, the Catalan Government, the Barcelona City Council and the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The Fundació, created by the artist himself, holds an exceptional art collection and document archive. The Fundació Joan Miró opened its doors on June 10, 1975, and since then has become a landmark art centre where the works of Joan Miró are displayed alongside contemporary creative endeavours.

With its interdisciplinary approach, the Fundació organizes temporary exhibitions featuring artists from the 20th and 21st centuries while also pursuing academic activities and collaborations with other organizations. Through its exhibition programme and its educational programme, the Fundació Joan Miró offers subjects for reflection related to Miró’s works and to contemporary art ventures.
