Type of competition
Open two-phase anonymous “art in architecture” competition in German and English. The definitive competition language is German.
The objective of the first phase is to develop conceptual ideas. After the jury has selected up to 20 entries in the first phase, the chosen artists will have the opportunity to further develop their ideas in the second phase of the competition in accordance with the recommendations made by the jury. Each verifiable entry selected for participation in the second phase will receive a fee of Euro 3,000 (incl. VAT).
Eligibility for participation and procedure
Professional artists and artist groups worldwide are eligible.
Competition task and art location
The task is to develop artistic work as “art-in-architecture” for the central stairwell that, thematically, makes reference to the cultural message of the institution: The Humboldt Forum as a “cosmopolitan place,” as a “venue for the world.” Two areas are specified for this: The ceiling above the 3rd floor (350m2) and /or the central airspace on the 2nd and 3rd floor. Maximum implementation costs (incl. VAT.): EUR 300,000.
