Common Field, a national network of 600+ independent visual arts organizations and organizers, has launched a new website aimed at strengthening the artist-centered field by providing more resources and opportunities for building knowledge, connectivity, and visibility.

The website features profiles for network members and an interactive network map showing the activity and expansiveness of artist-centred spaces and organizations across the United States. Network members can post announcements, jobs, opportunities, and services using an improved listings feature. They can also log in to a members-only forum aimed at facilitating critical conversation among organizers, and share resources in an information hub.

Additionally, commonfield.org hosts toolkits, guides, reports, and other types of Field Research and resources, as well as Field Perspectives, commissioned essays released prior to its annual Convening of artist organizations. The site also features Field Conversations, a new video series connecting artist organizers across the country in live talks on topics crucial to the field.

Full archives from Common Field’s Convenings—annual itinerant gatherings that brings together 450+ visual arts organizers to share resources, ideas and methods for artist-centered spaces, projects and practices—are also housed on the website including past programs, presenters and attendees, and media, in the form of session notes, videos and photos.

All interested arts organizers are invited to access these resources—and add to them—by joining Common Field and its network.

Common Field’s website and identity were designed by New York based Wkshps (formerly Project Projects LLC) an award-winning design studio specializing in work for art, architecture, education, and culture.

About Common Field
Formed in 2013 and launched in 2015, Common Field connects, supports and advocates for the artist-centred field through collective action, shared information, and mutual support. As part of its evolution—and the growth it envisions for the field—it commits to sharing, open communication, and problem-solving. It aims for its new website to serve as a platform enabling its community to achieve similar goals.

The organization was founded to bring a far-reaching, diverse group of people together.

Common Field is as expansive and as strong as its community—and it hopes that it can evolve the technology required to facilitate its network’s growth.

Common Field is generously supported by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts with additional support from the The Philip and Muriel Berman Foundation, the Hemera Foundation, The Knight Foundation, the Metabolic Studio, the Wilhelm Family Foundation, and Common Field’s Membership Network.
