PICTURE BERLIN is a hybrid residency program founded in 2009 by artists for artists. PICTURE BERLIN is a network designed and built around each session’s incoming residents. Heading into its 9th year, PICTURE BERLIN offers two residency sessions designed for emerging artists working in contemporary art and photography; a 7-week Summer Session (July 12 to August 26, 2018) and a 10 day Fall Session (October 26 to November 4, 2018).

The Summer Session is a combination of a rigorous studio practice combined with a deep integration into the Berlin art scene. The dynamic programming offers lectures by Berlin based artists, one-on-one discussions with international artists and curators, multiple exhibitions, group meals, in-progress work reviews, studio visits, a curatorial marathon, and artist walks. The focus of the program is to bring together the development of one’s practice in combination with meeting and connecting to as many arts professionals in the city as possible. The strategy of the program is the lack of separation between studio practice, critiques, and shared meals. We firmly believe that every experience informs and builds on the next. Summer Session application deadline is January 5, 2018.

The Fall Session is a condensed intensive 10-day professional practices program focusing on networking and the practicalities of working as an artist in the European art world. The international PICTURE BERLIN community of arts professionals support the residents by way of portfolio reviews, a coaching session, artist studio visits and practical advice for furthering one’s career through exposure to the Berlin art scene. Fall Session application deadline is April 5, 2018.

PICTURE BERLIN’s extended network is comprised of over 100 international alumni, 50 curators and arts professionals and over 50 Berlin based artists. Don’t miss the chance to become a part of this international community! With acceptance and participation in the 2018 Summer or Fall Session—it is gives the participating residents guaranteed participation in the PICTURE BERLIN 2019 Summer Festival celebrating 10 years of the program!

The downloadable application is open to artists everywhere. To download the application for both the Summer and Fall Sessions, further information about the programs and a detailed explanation of program fees, eligibility and expectations, please visit our website.
