Rupert Residency Program is dedicated to local and international practitioners and thinkers: artists, writers, curators, sound artists, cultural managers and academics, providing them with the opportunity to live and work in Vilnius while developing individual projects and immersing themselves in the region’s contemporary art context.

Located in the picturesque area of Valakampiai in Vilnius and only a short distance from the city’s flourishing cultural centre, Rupert is set by the river Neris complete with small river beach, and surrounded by peaceful fields and a forest. Each resident is provided with a studio space and mezzanine (approximately 52 sq. m. altogether) to be used as a production and research space during the residency. The studio is fully furnished and equipped with WiFi. The building also houses a reading room, conference room and a kitchen, all of which are open for residents’ use. The residents are also invited to get involved in the Rupert Alternative Education Program, as well as the Exhibitions and Public programs, where the residents can attend talks, lectures and workshops by prominent curators, artists and thinkers from all over the world. Driving these programs is Rupert’s central ethos of establishing collaborations and conversations between local artists, local and international art organizations and the residents themselves, facilitating a dynamic exchange of artistic ideas.

At least half of residencies are free thanks to the support of Lithuanian Council for Culture and other grants. The remaining half of the residencies cost 450 EUR a month.

To apply, please send your application form along with your CV and portfolio (up to five works) to residencies@rupert.lt by January 31, 2018.

Residency period: July–December 2018
Residency duration: 1–3 months
Application fee: 10 EUR

Rupert’s Alternative Education Program aims to combine self-directed education, interdisciplinary exchange and professional development. It is a resource aimed at creating opportunities for exchange between thinkers and creative practitioners from all over the world, and seeks to facilitate the  production of individual projects, including artworks, exhibitions, publications and institutions. The program consists of regular lectures, workshops, events and studio visits with local and international guests.

Every edition of the Program begins anew, that is to say—it is always divergent from its past iterations. We fine-tune our approach with each edition, exploring new modes of engagement and pedagogical formats. However, Program’s original aim remains: to help emerging artists to develop their practice in the framework of formal and informal exchanges between themselves, writers, art theorists, curators, scientists, international artists, and the public.

The 6th edition of the Alternative Education Program is curated by Adomas Narkevičius and joined by Joanna Warsza, Orit Gat, Jörg Heiser, Martha Kirszenbaum, Myriam Ben Salah, Fatos Üstek, Owen Griffiths, Laurynas Adomaitis and more local and international tutors (to be announced) who will provide mentorship, host talks, workshops, public events or engage participants in free-form conversations and discussions. The rest of the Program will be created by you—the participants.

We look forward to receiving your applications! And if you’re not an artist, a curator or a writer, please don’t be discouraged from applying. We would love to have you involved!

Send your application form, CV and portfolio (no more than 5 works) to info [at] rupert.lt by January 31, 2018 (Wednesday midnight). Applicants selected for a live or Skype interviews will be notified separately. Final selections will be announced in early March. The Program is free.

Program dates: March–September 2018
