Residencies
Banff Artist in Residence Summer 2018

Seek retreat from the everyday and engage in an international community of artists from all disciplines for an intense period of creativity that defines summer at Banff Centre. BAiR Summer 2018 is a self-directed program in visual arts offering the space, time, and inspiration in which to make new work.
Outdoor School
July 23–August 24
Application deadline: March 28
The Outdoor School residency will bring together visual artists with an interest in outdoor culture and recreation, field naturalist practices, experiential modes of learning, ecology, and the environment. Participants will join in hands-on workshops, engage with and learn from members of the community, and explore the connections between art, outdoor culture and the landscape.
Beyond Anthropocene: Banff Research in Culture (BRiC)
July 30–August 10
Application deadline: April 4
Successful societies learn to live sustainably by adapting to their environment and naturally imposed resource constraints. The Beyond Anthropocene program asks how adaptation, transition, and revolution might prescribe our future realities. Together we will investigate the capacities and limits of our imaginations to conceive of what lies beyond the climate crisis. The residency is for artists, cultural theorists, researchers, scientists, architects, and writers.
Banff Artist in Residence Fall 2018

This program provides time and space for artists, curators, and arts professionals to create, research, experiment, and cultivate new directions in their work. In addition to a private studio space and shared facility use, artists are surrounded by a community of artistic peers.
Practicums
Ceramics Studio Practicum
July 9, 2018–June 29, 2019
Application deadline: March 28
This program offers practical experience in ceramics techniques and building processes, kiln firing (electric, gas, soda, raku, and wood), and ceramics studio operation for the support of artistic practice.
Digital Media Studio Practicum
July 9, 2018–June 29, 2019
Application deadline: March 28
This program offers practical experience in the areas of video production and post-production, audio, animation, interactive media, computational media, and digital fabrication for use in artistic practice.
Indigenous Studio Practicum
September 10, 2018–August 31, 2019
Application deadline: May 9
There are currently opportunities for Indigenous participants in digital media, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics. An Indigenous artist will be selected for one, or all, of these mediums based on artistic merit and technical skill. Indigenous artists working through photography are encouraged to apply directly to the Photography Practicum program.
Printmaking Studio Practicum
September 10, 2018–August 31, 2019

This program offers practical experience in the areas of screenprinting, intaglio, lithography, typography, digital printing and software, fibre, papermaking, and training in printmaking studio operation for support of artistic practice.
Sculpture Studio Practicum

Application deadline: May 9
This program offers practical experience in the areas of tool maintenance and safety, woodworking with hand tools and heavy equipment (table saw, band saw, planer, jointer, miter saw), metal working and metal casting (bronze and aluminum), and training in sculpture studio operation for support of artistic practice.
