Pratt Institute is seeking applicants for the following academic leadership positions:
Chair of Foundation
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the Chair of Foundation will provide leadership for the Foundation Program, will have a genuine and thoughtful interest in the work of education in the integrated context of Foundation, and will be committed to collaborating with colleagues in the program and across the Institute to create an environment in which students, faculty, and staff all thrive. Since 1939, Pratt’s Foundation program has been an essential part of the Institute’s art and design curriculum. The Program’s mission is two-fold: to prepare students to enter the more specialized professional departments in the Institute, and to broaden and deepen their experience in art and design as a basis and an impetus for lifelong learning and development. The Foundation Program serves just less than 500 students per year and has a faculty of approximately 50.
Chair of Mathematics and Sciences
The Chair of MSCI will assume intellectual and administrative leadership of a faculty drawn to Pratt by the opportunity to work in the interdisciplinary environment of a top-rated college of art, design, and architecture, and to teach highly creative, dedicated, and academically well-prepared Pratt students. The chair’s vision will embrace the intellectual and creative missions of the department. The chair will facilitate the interplay and coevolution of the disciplines and faculty in a dynamic collaboration that continues to build on its strengths of interaction within the department, with their art-and-design-school environment, and with the public. The chair of MSCI will be expected to continue to expand the dynamic and innovative programs hosted in the department. The chair will also engage with staff and administrators across the Institute to develop strategies for continuing to recruit and retain the best students, and for advancing faculty professional development.
Chair of Photography
The School of Art at Pratt Institute seeks a dynamic collaborative leader to serve as chair of our Photography Department. The department is a recognized leader in photographic education and offers a BFA degree and an MFA degree in a soon-to-be-relaunched graduate program that is closely aligned with the fine arts department. The chair will provide academic and artistic leadership by articulating and carrying out a shared vision within a department that has experienced the growth of student enrollment, faculty positions, and public programing in recent years. Applicants should have strong administrative experience and be conversant with contemporary issues in photography and related fields. The chair must have excellent communication skills with an equitable leadership style.
