Virginia San Fratello is an applied architectural researcher, design activist, author, and thought leader in the field of additive manufacturing. In addition to leading Rael + San Fratello and Emerging Objects, Virginia is an associate professor in the Department of Design at San Jose State University. She recently won the International Interior Design Educator of the Year Award and is also a winner of the Metropolis magazine Next Gen Design Competition. Her creative practice, Rael + San Fratello, was named an Emerging Voice by The Architectural League of New York and was awarded the ACADIA digital practice award of excellence.
The work of Rael + San Fratello has been published widely, including in the Architect’s Newspaper, Architectural Record, Progressive Architecture, Interior Design, The New York Times, Wired, MARK, Domus, Metropolis, and PRAXIS. Their work is recognized by several institutions including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Bellevue Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.
