Kreëmart and Ladurée are proud to present Marina Abramovic’s Taste as the first subject of the “Pastry Portrait” by Raphaël Castoriano, a collection embodying identity in the form of taste.
For this unprecedented and unique undertaking, Ladurée and Castoriano worked closely with the artist to curate every aspect of the Taste and the pastry. Castoriano chose Marina Abramovic as the first subject to introduce the concept of the Pastry Portrait because of her affinity for the intangible and the immaterial. Her body is her medium, the physical tool of her work. Castoriano has conceived a new way of understanding what it is to experience the artist.
Marina Abramovic’s Taste is a special limited edition of three Prussian Blue macarons presented in a bespoke three-corner box and shopping bag adorned with Marina Abramovic’s family crest and signature. Only 250 boxes will be available at the world debut launch at Ladurée London Harrods and the product is only available for purchase in London during the launch period, October 3 to 10, 2017. Subsequently, 250 boxes will be made available for the Paris launch at Ladurée Paris Le Macaron concurrent with FIAC International Art Fair. In Paris, the product is only available for purchase during the launch period, October 16 to 22, 2017. Additional launch dates and cities, including Milan, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Tokyo will be announced shortly.
The “Pastry Portrait” is the most innovative endeavor of Kreëmart Creative Director and Founder Raphaël Castoriano to give a form to the immaterial, one that is physical yet ephemeral…the transformation of identity into taste. Kreëmart works closely with Ladurée’s top pastry chefs and perfumers to develop an individual’s “taste,” each of which is tailored to the subject’s identity; a portrait captured in the form of a pastry. Private “Pastry Portrait” commissions are available through Kreëmart.
Raphaël Castoriano has been working in contemporary art for over 20 years. Past collaborators include Maurizio Cattelan, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Vik Muniz, Terence Koh, Kalup Linzy, Anselm Reyle, and Richard Tuttle, among many other established and emerging artists.
