Eduardo Chillida,
the concave curve

Galería Cayón is inaugurating its third space in Madrid with an exhibit devoted to Chillida. This new space, located in Blanca de Navarra 9 and built in the 1930s as a small theater for the convent adjacent to the Blanca de Navarra 7 gallery, offers a unique art environment. It has been reconfigured into a perfect white exhibit hall with six-meter ceilings by the architectural firm Estudio MH, under the direction of Susana Martinez and Enrique Montejo.
To celebrate the opening of this space, Galería Cayón presents the exhibit Eduardo Chillida, the concave curve, organized with the collaboration of the Chillida Museum, the Chillida Belzunce Family collection, and several European art collectors. The pieces on display highlight the crucial role that the concave curve plays in Chillida’s work, the importance of which became clear to Chillida himself as he was preparing his tribute to Miró in 1983. Chillida discovered that while the convex curve dominated Miró’s work, it was the concave curve that most characterized his own: the inner space, the space that yet remained.
The Chillida exhibit in this new gallery will run concurrently with two other solo events devoted to Josef Albers, at Orfila 10, and Jesús Soto, at Blanca de Navarra 7.
