Art16 announce the appointment of Nathan Clements-Gillespie as Fair Director.

Nathan Clements-Gillespie joins Art16 from MACRO – The Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome where he served from 2010 and as Director of External Affairs from 2011. During his tenure at MACRO, Nathan was responsible for the museum’s strategy and expansion, working with galleries, artists, and trustees to make exhibitions possible. As principle contact for MACRO’s board, Nathan worked with chairpersons Massimo Micangeli from 2010 to 2012 and Beatrice Bulgari from 2012. He implemented the board’s acquisitions and programming strategy and worked alongside artists Bik Van Der Pol, Ernesto Neto, Dan Perjovski, Arcangelo Sassolino, Carsten Holler, Mircea Cantor, Yto Barrada, Jimmie Durham, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Mile+Doug Starn, Sam Durant, Hidetoshi Nagasawa, Sterling Ruby, Imran Qureshi, Giulio Paolini, Jorinde Voigt, Graham Hudson, Ishmael Randall-Weeks, and Julieta Aranda.

In 2013 Nathan served as project and development manager for viceversa—The Italian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale. In 2014 he produced the museum’s summer exhibition Chittrovanu Mazumdar. And what is left unsaid. Since January 2015, Nathan has consulted for In Between Art Film working with artists MASBEDO, Pierre Bismuth, Ed Ruscha, and Nobel Laureate Orhan Pamuk, the Istanbul Biennial and Biennial of the Moving Image.

Nathan Clements-Gillespie holds a BA and MA from The University of Oxford and a Licence ès lettres from the Université de Paris – Sorbonne.

Art16 co-founder Tim Etchells commented, “When we met Nathan, Sandy [Sandy Angus, co-founder of Art16] and I were both very impressed by his entrepreneurial skills. He is an intellectual with a good commercial mind.”

On his appointment, Nathan adds, “Art16 is a fantastic platform to meet galleries and artists not only from established markets such as London, continental Europe, and North America, but also to discover new talent from Lagos to Los Angeles, Havana to Hangzhou, and Sao Paolo to Seoul in dialogue with one another and with different art forms.”
