The third edition of the workshop will be held in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in September.
In 2014, the third edition of the ARTE!Brasileiros International Seminar will feature an important new development: for the first time the event will be held in São Paulo and in Rio de Janeiro, on September 4 and 9, respectively. The dates have been chosen to coincide with the opening of the 31st Bienal de São Paulo and of ArtRio fair.
The expansion of the event is part of a strategy to bring knowledge to the Brazilian public and encourage an exchange with foreign experts.
This year, in line with our goal to deepen the debate about contemporary art in the 21st century, the panels will discuss how art is inserted into the context of contemporariness—initiatives and examples of contemporary spaces that have achieved international success—and finally, how Latin America stands out in this scenario.
The event will be attended by the Artistic Director of the next dOCUMENTA, in Kassel, Adam Szymczyk, which takes place every five years in Germany; and by the curators of the 31st Bienal de São Paulo, Charles Esche and Galit Eilat. It will also have the participation of renowned curator Alanna Heiss, the founder and former director of MoMA PS1; Agustín Pérez Rubio, the current Artistic Director of Malba, in Argentina; Colombia-born José Roca, the Estrellita B. Brodsky Adjunct Curator of Latin American Art at Tate, London; and Julieta González, the Senior Curator at the Museo Tamayo, Mexico City.
Philosopher Peter Pál Pelbart, a Professor of Philosophy at PUC-SP, will introduce the debate “What does being contemporary mean?”
The event is free and will be simultaneously broadcast by TV!Brasileiros web channel. Since 2012, the ARTE!Brasileiros International Seminar has gathered experts from all over the world to discuss relevant themes with an audience that has been growing on a yearly basis.
