Talking Galleries Barcelona Symposium
Building Bridges: art galleries, artists and audiences

29–30 September 2014

MACBA – Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona
2-day programme for contemporary art gallery professionals

www.talkinggalleries.com

Contemporary art galleries play a central role within the modern art world. They have become leading agents that perform a key mission in the definition of its ecosystem. The current global scale of economic, technological and sociopolitical transformations is profoundly modifying the gallery practice and new formulas have to be found to adapt to the changing environments.

Talking Galleries Barcelona Symposium is an international meeting for gallery professionals that discusses the most urgent issues concerning contemporary art galleries. The forum hosts experts and opinion leaders and aims to find effective answers for gallerists to develop their practice according to the new realities shaped by the business cycles, the rapidly changing technology and the shifting values of the traditional marketplace.

The third edition of the Symposium will focus on the relationship between galleries and their audiences and the working dynamics they have with their artists. What do artists expect from their galleries? How can communication strategies be improved to stand out of the crowd? How are new agents changing the art market? What are the benefits of carrying out joint projects between galleries? What are the new roles of the gallerists?

The Symposium will display a two-day programme conceived as a series of discussions, case studies and presentations. The ultimate goal is to tackle the most challenging topics gallery professionals deal with in their daily practice, strengthen an international community of gallerists and promote the exchange of content.
