Art Dubai invites galleries to apply for its ninth edition (March 18–21, 2015). Art Dubai is known as a particularly innovative event, and one that takes a truly global approach to today’s art world. The leading international fair in the Middle East and South Asia, Art Dubai places an emphasis on maintaining an intimate, human scale while foregrounding quality and diversity. Selected galleries range from world-renowned dealers to upcoming artspaces.

Always aiming to foreground quality and a curatorial approach, Art Dubai has a particularly close relationship with its galleries: the artists they represent, and the works they select, reconfirm year-on-year the fair’s role as a site of discovery and diversity.

In 2014, the dynamic fair programming generated a wealth of interest from an increasingly diverse audience base. Art Dubai welcomed 85 participating galleries from 34 countries; 25,500 UAE-based, regional and international guests; and more than 400 curators and 70 museum groups.

Application deadline: September 15, 2014

Art Dubai features three gallery programmes—Contemporary, Modern and Marker—offering audiences the opportunity to discover the work of more than 500 artists through histories and across diverse geographies.

Contemporary includes two exhibition halls dedicated to galleries and art spaces. Proposals are considered by a gallery- and curator-led Selection Committee and the process is highly competitive. Art Dubai Contemporary tends to be extraordinarily diverse. In 2014 the halls featured 70 galleries from 28 countries, from the world’s most influential galleries to dynamic young art spaces. Art Dubai accepts applications from commercial galleries and not-for-profit spaces working in the primary market, established for at least two years.

Modern, launched in 2014, is dedicated to modern masters of the twentieth century, (re)considered through solo and two-person shows. The programme focuses on artists from the Middle East, South Asia and—new in 2015—from across Africa, presented by regionally- and internationally-based galleries. Proposals are considered and discussed with the applicants by a curatorial board; key advisors to Art Dubai Modern include the renowned historians and curators Savita Apte, Catherine David, Kristine Khouri and Nada Shabout.

Marker is a curated programme within the Contemporary hall, focusing each year on a particular theme or geography. By invitation only, the theme and curator for Marker 2015 will be announced shortly.

About Art Dubai 2015
The ninth edition of Art Dubai runs from March 18 to 21, 2015. Held in partnership with The Abraaj Group, the fair takes place at Madinat Jumeirah.

Art Dubai 2014 ended on March 22, having received over 25,000 visitors. The fair was sponsored by Cartier and Emaar, while the inaugural Art Dubai Modern was sponsored by Mashreq Private Banking.

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is a strategic partner of Art Dubai and supports the fair’s year-round education programme.

Featured alongside the gallery halls, Art Dubai has the largest not-for-profit programme of any such fair, worldwide. Its programming includes residencies, commissioned artists’ projects, a live radio station and cinema; the five-day Global Art Forum; an exhibition of works by winners of the annual Abraaj Group Art Prize; and Campus Art Dubai, a year-round art school for UAE-based artists and curators.

Full stream videos and documentation of the Global Art Forum 2014, titled “Meanwhile… History,” can be viewed here.

The ninth edition of Art Dubai will run alongside Design Days Dubai—the world’s most diverse fair dedicated to limited collectible design—plus a myriad of other art-related events, exhibitions and cultural happenings in the UAE.

Art Dubai 2015 will also coincide with Sharjah Biennial; the 12th edition of the renowned biennial, directed by Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi and curated by Eungie Joo.

Among a number of major museum shows and events taking place across the wider region, the Kochi-Muziris Biennial, curated by Jitish Kallat, extends its dates, also coinciding with Art Dubai.
