Art Dubai:
Exhibiting galleries announced

March 19–22, 2014

Madinat Jumeirah

The eighth edition of Art Dubai includes more than 80 galleries from 35 countries—from the world’s most influential galleries to dynamic young art spaces. Known as one of the most global and innovative of art fairs, Art Dubai now features three gallery programmes, offering audiences the opportunity to discover the work of more than 500 artists through histories and across geographies.

This year sees the launch of Art Dubai Modern, a series of solo and two-person booth exhibitions, plus research projects, devoted to modern masters from the Middle East and South Asia. This precise programme has been developed with a group of eminent historians and curators, including Savita Apte, Catherine David, Kristine Khouri and Nada Shabout.

Artists exhibiting in the inaugural edition of Art Dubai Modern include Hamad Abdalla (with Karim Francis gallery, Cairo); Rasheed Araeen (Grosvenor Vadehra, London/New Delhi); Michel Basbous (Agial, Beirut); Ardeshir Mohasses (Shirin Gallery, Tehran/New York); and Anwar Jalal Shemza (Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai).

Art Dubai’s contemporary halls have again been heavily oversubscribed, and the independent selection process was lengthy and stringent. Galleries joining the fair for the first time include Baró Galeria (São Paulo), The Breeder (Athens), Gladstone Gallery (New York), Marian Goodman (New York/Paris), Galerie Greta Meert (Brussels), Galleria Franco Noero (Turin), Gallery SKE (Bangalore), Yavuz Fine Art (Singapore), and 313 Art Project (Seoul).

Following the success of Art Dubai 2013, many key galleries are returning in March 2014, among them Athr Gallery (Jeddah), Galerie Chantal Crousel (Paris), D Gallerie (Jakarta), Experimenter (Kolkata), Galerist (Istanbul),  Alexander Gray Associates (New York), Greenaway (Adelaide/Berlin), Grey Noise (Dubai), Galerie Rodolphe Janssen (Brussels), Galerie Krinzinger (Vienna), Victoria Miro (London), Schleicher/Lange (Berlin), The Third Line (Dubai), and Galerie Tanja Wagner (Berlin).

Marker—the dynamic, curated programme of galleries and art spaces—focusses on Central Asia and the Caucasus and is curated by the artists Slavs and Tatars. Participating spaces, plus a programme of projects, research and educational initiatives, will be announced early December.

Growing its reach through history as well as geography and always foregrounding quality and a curatorial approach, Art Dubai reconfirms its role as a fair of discovery and diversity, promising to bring together the most influential—both regional and global—galleries to engage with the vibrant art scene in the region.
