The International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) presents 90 exhibiting members in the 23rd edition of the IFPDA Print Fair, widely acclaimed for its focus on the top echelon of artists drawn to printmaking as an artistic medium. On October 30, an exclusive online preview of the Fair will launch on Artsy.net, which will serve as the dedicated online resource for collectors to browse exhibitors, artists, and works, explore editorial coverage and top picks from art-world insiders, and inquire about artworks remotely.

Richard Hamilton Acquisition Prize sponsored by Champion & Partners
Through the generosity of Champion & Partners, the prize provides 10,000 USD for one museum’s acquisition at the Fair and generates considerable excitement among its loyal museum attendees. The 2013 recipient will be announced at the Opening Night Preview.

New editions
While the Fair is a key market for extraordinary old master and modern works, savvy contemporary collectors and curators also consider it a signal event for the debut of new editions. The elite international roster of contemporary artists with new projects includes Venice Biennale artists Katrin Sigurdardóttir and Jeremy Deller in addition to Terry Winters, Mark Fox, Ellsworth Kelly, Frank Gehry, Richard Tuttle, Richard Woods, Julian Opie, James Turrell, Michael Craig-Martin, Mickalene Thomas, Nicole Eisenman, Magne Furuholmen, Shepard Fairey, Mit Senoj, Ana Maria Pacheco, Katia Santibañez, James Siena, Christopher Wool, Atsushi Kaga, Ryan McGinness, Marjetica Potrc, Kiki Smith, Jimmie Durham, Paulina Olowska, John Armleder, Nicky Hoberman, Robert Bechtle, Yvonne Jacquette, Hiroki Morinoue, and many more. Exhibiting contemporary publishers include many active on the international art fair circuit: Gemini G.E.L. at Joni Moisant Weyl, Alan Cristea Gallery, Paul Stolper, Tandem Press, Pace Prints, Two Palms, Carolina Nitsch, Niels Borch Jensen Editions, Galerie Sabine Knust, Polígrafa Obra Gráfica, Parkett Editions, World House Editions, and Crown Point Press, the focus of a newly opened retrospective at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

Postwar masterworks
This year’s Fair offers ample evidence that the 20th century’s postwar conceptualists used printmaking prolifically in their artistic practice. Over the years, exhibiting dealer Brooke Alexander published over 1,500 editions with more than 75 painters and sculptors including Donald Judd, Bruce Nauman, Barnett Newman, and Richard Tuttle, and his booth will include key works by these artists. Barbara Krakow Gallery plans an erudite selection of prints by Lawrence Weiner, Jenny Holzer, Peter Downsbrough, Dan Flavin, Sol LeWitt, and Ellsworth Kelly. Diane Villani Editions, also well versed in the conceptualist canon, will feature Fred Sandback, Richard Artschwager and Dieter Roth.

New discoveries for contemporary collectors
While the Fair draws an established clientele for rare and important old master and modern works, contemporary collectors have increasingly found it an attractive entry point to 15th-, 16th- and 17th-century woodcuts, etchings, and engravings. C & J Goodfriend Drawings and Prints offers Faust (Faust in His Study, Watching a Magic Disc), ca. 1652, an etching and drypoint by Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn. Jan Johnson, Old Master & Modern Prints, plans a themed grouping of 16th- and 17th-century depictions of banquets and celebrations including the exceedingly rare and large Marriage at Cana engraved jointly by Hendrik Goltzius and his stepson Jacob Matham, printed in four joined parts. R. S. Johnson Fine Art offers a rare c. 1620 etching by Jacques Callot. Contemporary publisher Dolan / Maxwell also features an impressive inventory in American modernism, particularly Stanley William Hayter’s oeuvre. John Szoke will focus on masterworks by Edvard Munch and Pablo Picasso. Galerie St. Etienne, an expert dealer in Austrian and German Expressionism, will offer impressions by Lyonel Feininger, Hermann Max Pechstein, Emil Nolde, and Max Beckmann.
