EXPO CHICAGO, The International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art, returns to Navy Pier’s Festival Hall September 19 to 22, 2013. Proud to present 125 leading international galleries from 17 different countries and 36 cities, EXPO CHICAGO has established itself as a preeminent art fair and cultural destination. EXPO CHICAGO’s design-forward interior and layout, conceived by Studio Gang Architects, led by MacArthur Fellow Jeanne Gang, will once again underscore the outstanding modern and contemporary artwork presented by the exhibiting galleries. EXPO CHICAGO also offers a full roster of events including collection tours, panel discussions and site-specific projects. Vernissage, the opening night preview benefiting the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, takes place Thursday, September 19, from 6 to 9pm. IN/SITU
Providing the opportunity for exhibitors to showcase large-scale installations, site-specific and performative works by select international artists, IN/SITU is a key component of the exposition’s innovative artistic programming. Situated throughout EXPO CHICAGO’s expansive floor, IN/SITU will offer a dynamic itinerary that connects various points of interest throughout the fair. IN/SITU is curated by Shamim M. Momin, director, curator, and co-founder of LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division). Levity/ Gravity, an itinerant exhibition included within IN/SITU and curated by Momin, will feature works by Diana Al-Hadid, Kevin Appel, Sanford Biggers, Jose Dávila, Dan Gunn, Karl Haendel, Glenn Kaino, Andreas Lolis, Michael Rakowitz, Shinique Smith, and Alec Soth.
/Dialogues
Presented in partnership with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), /Dialogues is a year-round program of symposia, panel discussions, and provocative artistic discourse. The series will culminate with informative and thought-provoking daily events during the fair, highlighting the field’s leading artists, architects, curators, designers and arts professionals and the current issues that engage them. Highlights from the upcoming /Dialogues series include William J. O’Brien (artist, Marianne Boesky Gallery) in conversation with Christopher E. Vroom (Founder and President, Artadia: The Fund for Art and Dialogue) on Friday, September 20 at 11am; Michelle Grabner (artist, educator and curator of the 2014 Whitney Biennial) in conversation with David Norr (Chief Curator, Cleveland MOCA) and Gaylen Gerber (artist) moderated by Reto Thuring (Associate Curator of Contemporary Art, Cleveland Museum of Art) on Friday, September 20 at 12:30pm; and Jesper Just (artist, James Cohan Gallery) in conversation with Dean Otto (Program Manager of the Film/Video Department at Walker Art Center) Saturday, September 21 at 11am.
EXPO VIDEO
In conjunction with Columbia College Chicago, EXPO VIDEO will highlight a selection of dynamic and cutting-edge film, video and new media works by artists selected from the exhibiting galleries at EXPO CHICAGO in a lounge designed by Studio Gang Architects. Curated by Dean Otto, EXPO VIDEO will also present one piece created by a Columbia College student or recent graduate for inclusion in the innovative program.
Special exhibitions
More than 20 special exhibitions will be included in EXPO CHICAGO, highlighting the important link between the arts, philanthropic and nonprofit organizations. Special exhibitions from some of the top museums, universities, organizations and institutions include ACRE, Aperture Foundation, Artadia, Artspace, Bad at Sports, Balloon Contemporary, BOLT Residency, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, The Conservation Center, HATCH Projects, Hirsch Books, Human Rights Watch, Hyde Park Art Center, Independent Curators International, International Sculpture Center, Laumeier Sculpture Park, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Natural Resources Defense Council, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Chicago, the Warhol Museum, the West Collection and Whitechapel Gallery.

EXPO ART WEEK
In an effort to highlight the vast cultural opportunities that Chicago has to offer to collectors, dealers, art enthusiasts and tourists, EXPO CHICAGO, in conjunction with Choose Chicago, the city’s tourism and marketing organization and Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), introduce EXPO ART WEEK (September 16 to 22), a citywide celebration of arts and culture with over 100 special events, institutions, museums, galleries, theaters and restaurants participating.
