Currently Director of Visual Arts at FIAF, New York, Guerrero’s appointment heralds an ambitious new chapter for White Box, a respected Manhattan institution. As of July 2013 Guerrero will be responsible for development of its prolific exhibition and public programs, and international profile.

Founded as Chelsea’s first alternative art space in 1998, White Box (WBX) is a leading independent not-for-profit 501(c) 3 cultural platform and innovative venue for contemporary art.  Akin to a laboratory, it suggests an unconventional approach to the presentation of exhibitions, projects, new media, talks, screenings, and events.  The result is a distinctive way of thinking and looking in opposition to assumptions that great art is associated with great economic value.

Juan Puntes, founder of White Box, commented, “In the past fifteen years, WBX has earned a reputation as an important venue for radical presentation and discussion of contemporary art. I am delighted that Tony will be joining us. His respect for art and artists has brought him great esteem from many artists and curators from around the world. He will lead WBX to new heights.”

Ali Hosseini, White Box board member, added, “Tony is a incredible addition to our team, and brings to WBX a unique experience from his long tenure at PS1 (now MoMA PS1). His experience, leadership, and creative acumen will be essential to expanding White Box’s program commiting also to the ephemeral arts and emerging artists who form the leading edge of culture.”

Guerrero stated, “I am thrilled to join one of the rare institutions offering a genuine alternative in today’s art world. I have been impressed with WBX’s risk-taking approach, testing new ideas uncompromisingly. Throughout the years, its program remains true to the original avant-garde spirit  while embracing today’s dynamics, presenting local and international programs alike. I am eager to build on WBX’s commitment to fostering the new alternative art center many of us long for. I look forward to working with a variety of collaborators, and developing a vibrant program. . I think of how PS1 was when it first began, and The New Museum in its very original incarnation. It would be exciting to see a truly independent and challenging art space in New York, which can reflect, adapt, and respond to the times.”

Antoine “Tony” Guerrero, prior to FIAF, held various positions at MoMA PS1, New York; Director of the National and International Artists Residences program “PS1 Studio Program” and Director of Exhibitions and Operations. He produced the Greater New York survey shows, YAP – the Young Architects Program, and Warm Up – Summer Music Program, from inception. He organized the WPS1 Art Radio boat in two consecutive Venice Biennales, 2005–07.

He produced over 200 major exhibitions and international projects with a broad range of artists including Janet Cardiff, John Kessler, Dieter Roth and Bjorn Roth, Taryn Simon, Kim Sooja, Richard Tuttle, Lawrence Weiner, Chen Zhen, and curators Alanna Heiss, Carolyn Cristov Bakargiev, Connie Butler, Gary Garrels, Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Harald Szeemann, Neville Wakefield, and many others.
From 2008 to 2010 he served as Senior Staff Member to MoMA–MoMA PS1′s transition committee, following the retirement of PS1’s founder Alanna Heiss. In France, he was Director of Gallerie du Jour, agnès b. Paris, 1999–2000; Director of Operations and Residency Program, American Center, Paris,1995–96; and Director of Operations, Le Magasin, National Center of Contemporary Art, Grenoble,1992–93. He was a jury member on numerous committees for artists residencies and projects: YAP, at MoMA PS1, the Berlin Senate, and l’AFAA, to name a few. Freelance curator, producer and coordinator; Venice Biennale, 1991 and 1993; Lausanne Biennale, 1995; the New Museum, New York, 1994, guest curator at French Art Festivals; Arles, Nantes, Creteil, 1996 to 1999.

He was made a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2003, an award conferred upon him by the Republic of France.
