PULSE Miami 2012 opens this week!

PULSE Contemporary Art Fair presents PULSE Miami 2012, a leading art fair dedicated to international contemporary art, from December 6 to 9 at The Ice Palace Studios in Miami. Currently in its eighth edition, PULSE Miami will open on Tuesday, December 4th, with a special preview evening and silent auction hosted by artnet Auctions, benefiting the Lotus House Women’s Shelter in Miami. This year’s fair will be home to eighty-six national and international galleries, presenting exhibitions that span across all media, from works on paper, paintings, and sculptures, to performances, installations, and video art.

New international exhibitors joining PULSE Miami this season include The Fine Art Society Contemporary (London), presenting works by Chris Levine, celebrated for his iconic TIME cover portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II; Nuova Galleria Morone (Milan), showing legendary Italian conceptual artist Maria Lai; Galerie Alex Daniels-Reflex Amsterdam (Amsterdam) featuring a roster of international talents; and VIGO GALLERY (London) displaying geometric paintings by Biggs and Collings.

Additional highlights include Danziger Gallery (New York), showing photographs by “The Sartorialist” Scott Schuman, and works by Robert Frank, and Edward Weston; Yossi Milo Gallery (New York), displaying Chris McCaw’s unique sunburn images and Charles Freger’s Wilder Mann series; Josée Bienvenu Gallery (New York) offering pieces by Julianne Swartz and Ken Solomon; Shoshana Wayne Gallery (Santa Monica), featuring the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s 2012 Contemporary Artist Award winner, Kathy Butterly; VON LINTEL GALLERY (New York) bringing a group showing of works by Marco Breuer and Catherine Howe; and GALERIE STEFAN ROEPKE (Cologne/Madrid) displaying works by Iva Gueorguieva.

Special projects
The latest edition of PULSE PLAY>, the fair’s ongoing video lounge series, will be home to WATCH SOME MOVIES by Casey Neistat, an interactive film archive featuring the artist’s works and an “Information Booth” manned by Casey Neistat himself, where he will field inquiries on proclaimed areas of proficiency including boxing, Nintendo 64, carpentry, long-distance running, the Second World War, filmmaking, Instagram, cell phones, mountain climbing, Malcolm X, painting, and more.

PULSE MIAMI 2012 continues its signature series, PULSE PROJECTS, an engaging selection of installations throughout the fair, proposed by galleries and not-for-profit institutions. PULSE PROJECTS enables the exploration of artistic practice outside of the confines of a booth, and lends to larger solutions within the context of the fair. This year’s projects feature Zackary Drucker‘s At least you know you exist, 2011, a short film shown earlier this year at MoMA PS1 (New York), and brought to PULSE by LUIS DE JESUS LOS ANGELES (Los Angeles); and Carlos Rigau’s Hello Deconstructing Fantasy, 2012, of LMAKprojects (New York), which has previously been shown at the de la Cruz Collection (Miami). Additional PULSE PROJECTS include Alan Rath’s, Absolutely, Positively, 2012, courtesy of the artist and Hosfelt Gallery (San Francisco/New York) and Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery (New York); Nives Widauer’s Dialog with Analog – Settle (Sculpture), 2011, courtesy of Hilger modern/contemporary (Vienna); David Opdyke‘s Garden of Earthly Delights, 2012, courtesy of the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery (New York) and the artist; Shantell Martin’s Continuous Line, 2012, courtesy of Black & White Gallery Project Space (Brooklyn); Jenna Spevack’s Seeding The City, 2012, courtesy of Jenna Spevack and Mixed Greens (New York); THIS END UP, a traveling mobile group exhibition by The West Collection (Oaks, PA); Kyle Trowbridge‘s Untitled Rant, 2012, courtesy of Dorsch Gallery (Miami); Venske & Spänle‘s marble installations, courtesy of the artists and Margaret Thatcher Projects (New York); Dinh Q.
