ART KYIV contemporary 2012, the seventh international forum of contemporary art to be held in the capital of Ukraine, will present artworks from about 30 galleries from six European countries, as well as four Special Projects.
ART KYIV contemporary is Ukraine’s most important art fair. Its mission is to present quality modern and contemporary art from the leading galleries of the country and the world.
ART KYIV contemporary 2012 will take the form of an art forum, meanwhile maintaining its traditional structure that includes Gallery Projects and Special Projects.
Targeting art collectors and professionals, the 2012 Gallery Projects are the latest and best examples of art from about 30 leading galleries (from Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Italy, Germany and France), including specially crafted projects by well-known artists.
The four Special Projects are designed not only to satisfy the high demands of the professional community, but also to entertain and educate the general audience:
Curated by Olexander Soloviov, Paintings only. New Ukrainian Figurative explores artists’ interest in a figurative depiction of reality. Ukraine’s most prominent star artists are among its participants: Vasily Tsagolov, Arsen Savadov, Oleg Tistol, Winnie Ryeunov, Alexander Roitburd, Maxim Mamsikov, Igor Gusev, Viktor Sydorenko, Vlada Ralko, Mykola Matsenko, Andriy Sagaidakovsky, Ilya Chichkan, Sergiy Zarva, Artem Volokitin and Yuri Pikul.
Another Special Project, X.Ten, presented by one of the most successful and largest Russian galleries, Triumph Gallery, will feature works by Alexander Vinogradov and Vladimir Dubossarsky, works previously unseen and unknown to the greater public. The artist duo comments that they feel responsibility toward their unpublished works. which is why Vinogradov and Dubossarsky decided to include them in this one new project.
Artistic Heritage and the Myth of Victor Vasarely will introduce the method and creative career of this French artist of Hungarian origin to the Ukrainian public. The exhibition of the master of Op Art is curated by Tibor Csapei, a friend of Vasarely and collector of his works. The Special Project is initiated by Mihaly Bayer, Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine. The exhibit is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.
The Italian Platform will be presented by well-known Italian galleries: Aria Art Gallery, White Room Gallery and Barbara Paci Gallery. The best of Italian video art of the last decade and works by young artists are on display from Aria Art Gallery. Marsello Zeppi is curator of the Italian Platform.
The exhibitions will be supported by the educational program, which includes lectures by Italian contemporary art experts from Rome and Florence, workshops with art critics from Flash Art magazine, talks, and film screenings.
The Honorary Guest of ART KYIV contemporary 2012 is Eric Bulatov, a famous Russian realist painter who lives and works in Paris.
ART KYIV contemporary 2012 is hosted by Mystetskyi Arsenal, an expansive arts and cultural complex in the downtown of Ukraine’s capital.

Founded as an art fair, ART KYIV contemporary was always the biggest project on the Ukrainian art scene, and eventually expanded to the art forum format. Today ART KYIV, which is oriented to the high standards of The First Kyiv Biennale of Contemporary Art, ARSENALE 2012, represents an extensive program. It consists of galleries’ exhibitions, prepared over the past year, an educational program designed for a wide audience, and Special Projects as well as represents wide range of Ukrainian artists.
