Galerie Bernard Bouche is pleased to present an exhibition of Belgian artist Raphaël Buedts (1946–2009).

This is the first time that Raphaël Buedts’ work is shown in France. Reluctant to exhibit his work, it was not until 2009, that the S.M.A.K in Gent organized a major retrospective accompanied by a monograph published at Cera Editions.

It was during the famous exhibition Chambres d’Amis, organized by Jan Hoet in 1986, that Raphael Buedts’ work is recognized for its singularity, harshness and poetic dimension. He then exhibited a series of sculptures entitled Mobilier pour un oiseau.

This series was the height of what Raphael Buedts had begun in the early 70s, the creation of strange furniture made up of simple wood, branches, string, or even silk or shells. A booklet published in collaboration with the poet and art critic Roland Jooris inventories this work. It was the start of his sculpture and works on paper.
