Mitchell | Riopelle: Nothing in moderation

The American painter Joan Mitchell (1925‑92) and the Canadian painter Jean‑Paul Riopelle (1923-2002) are, like Camille Claudel and Auguste Rodin, Lee Miller and Man Ray, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock, one of those mythological couples who used art and emotions to reveal a strong bond between two passionate and bold artists.

For the very first time an exhibition retraces their respective artistic careers in the light of their relationship, starting with their meeting in 1955, until their separation in 1979. Representative works and mainly large formats, the results of their work produced in this particular context will be presented in Landerneau.

Exhibition created by the the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and realized in conjunction with the Fonds Hélène & Édouard Leclerc pour la Culture, with the support of Yseult Riopelle, Sylvie Riopelle, the Joan Mitchell Foundation and private and public international museums collections.
