“Cinema in Piazza” in collaboration with Artecinema

A series of twelve films over six weekend nights

Magazzino Italian Art in collaboration with Artecinema and the Cold Spring Film Society presents “Cinema in Piazza,” a twelve film series over six weekend nights in July. The selection, curated by Laura Trisorio and Vittorio Calabrese, will include films about Piero Manzoni, Jannis Kounellis, Giulio Paolini, Pino Pascali, Giuseppe Penone, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Joseph Beuys, Louise Bourgeois, Sol LeWitt, Bruce Nauman, Richard Serra, and the Land Artists.

Every film will be introduced by the art historian Francesco Guzzetti at 8pm and will be screened after dusk in the Magazzino courtyard beginning on Friday, July 13, followed by Saturday, July 14, and during two more weeks every Friday and Saturday. 

Each night one film about an Italian artist will be paired with one film about an international artist. Every pairing is intended to shed light about common grounds and/or opposite trends in dealing with similar subjects by Italian artists and their peers abroad.

Magazzino will be open to visitors beginning at 7pm. Parking will be on a first come first serve basis. Before and after the event, Magazzino shuttles will take visitors from and to the Cold Spring train station.

About Magazzino Italian Art
Magazzino Italian Art is a private warehouse art space located in Cold Spring, New York. Devoted to Postwar and Contemporary Italian art from the Olnick Spanu Collection, Magazzino, meaning warehouse in Italian, was co-founded by Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu. Designed by Spanish architect Miguel Quismondo, the 20,000 square-foot structure is free to the public by appointment. Magazzino serves as a resource for scholars and students thanks to its extensive library and archive of Italian Art. In addition it has become a cultural hub for the vibrant Hudson Valley community. About Artecinema
Artecinema is an international festival of films on contemporary art established in Naples in 1996, curated by Laura Trisorio and awarded a medal from the President of the Republic of Italy. Each year the festival presents a selection of some thirty documentaries from all over the world about the most important artists, architects and photographers of the last fifty years. Artecinema is one of the most anticipated events of the sector and provides an opportunity for a learning experience as well as social gathering and cultural exchange.
