The Space Between Us: Technology, collaboration, and the future

This residency welcomes Indigenous visual artists, curators, and scholars from all nations around the world to gather here on Treaty 7 Territory. Participants will create new work, collaborate, and investigate technology as a decolonial tool to discuss culture, contemporary art practice, and the future.
Arts Writer in Residence 2019

Mid-career arts writers will develop a critical writing project and conduct research during this program, while enjoying focused time and space, and engaging with artists-in-residence and programs in Visual + Digital Arts. The residency is suited to arts writers focused on the development of a substantial project resulting in an external publication.
Curator in Residence 2019

This residency provides time and space for mid-career curators to develop an exhibition or project and conduct research while engaging with artists-in-residence and programs in Visual + Digital Arts. The program is suited to curators focused on the development of a substantial project resulting in an external public exhibition or curatorial event.
Banff Artist in Residence Winter 2019
January 7–February 8, 2019
Application deadline: August 1
Artists, curators, and arts professionals will create, research, experiment, and cultivate new directions in their work during this residency. In addition to a private studio space and shared facility use, artists are surrounded by a community of artistic peers.
Banff Artist in Residence Late Winter 2019
February 25–March 29, 2019

This program offers opportunities to work away from the constraints of everyday life. Participants are provided with a studio, accessible 24 hours a day, as well as access to our extensive facilities to further develop production techniques.
Practicums
Collections Practicum—Walter Phillips Gallery
October 8, 2018–October 8, 2019
Application deadline: July 18
This hands-on opportunity allows an individual to work with the Walter Phillips Gallery’s curator. The participant will receive direct mentorship on collections management practices and registrar duties that support the gallery’s collection of over 1,800 works.
Sculpture Studio Practicum
January 7–December 13, 2019
Application deadline: August 8
This program offers practical experience in the areas of tool maintenance and safety, woodworking with hand tools and heavy equipment (table saw, band saw, planer, jointer, miter saw), metal working and metal casting (bronze and aluminum), and training in sculpture studio operation for support of artistic practice.
