“Art in the Twenty-First Century” Season 9 premieres in Berlin, Johannesburg, New York, and San Francisco
The new season broadcasts online and on PBS this month, with premiere screenings happening around the world.
Art21 is pleased to announce a series of public premieres and screening events to accompany the release of the new season of their Peabody Award-winning documentary television series, Art in the Twenty-First Century. Season 9 is presented in three parts, drawing upon artists’ relationships with the places in which they work: Berlin, Germany; Johannesburg, South Africa; and the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA. Premiere screenings will take place in each featured city, along with a world premiere event in New York.
Revealing the stories of twelve innovators in visual art and—in a series first—a nonprofit art center, Season 9 features Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Olafur Eliasson, David Goldblatt, Katy Grannan, Nicholas Hlobo, Hiwa K, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Zanele Muholi, Susan Philipsz, Robin Rhode, Stephanie Syjuco as well as artists from the Creative Growth Art Center.
