Seeking Artistic Director

Kunsthalle Wien is the city of Vienna’s exhibition space for international contemporary art and discourse at its two venues: Museumsquartier Wien and Karlsplatz. It initiates artistic processes and produces exhibitions. The city of Vienna owns 100% of the Kunsthalle Wien, a limited liability company (GmbH).

The city of Vienna is in search of a person with an artistic, social, and political vision, and experience in the conception and realization of exhibitions on an international level, as well as in the coordination of a team. The candidate is expected to develop innovative concepts for the distinct profile of Kunsthalle Wien, and artistic strategies for the program and its mediation targeting at local and international visibility.

The position requires close collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer as well as intense exchange with the local art scene and media.

Satisfactory applications should include concepts on networking and mediation concerning Vienna’s manifold social and cultural structure; strategies on how to include broad communities and the local art scene; strategies on how to open up the institution internationally; and remarks on your personal understanding of leadership.

The Kunsthalle Wien GmbH explicitly invites female candidates who fulfill the application criteria to apply for this position. Applications from teams / collectives are possible. The position will start earliest in April 2019 and is announced for five years. The annual salary (also for teams) is 120,000 EUR before tax. It can be higher in exceptional circumstances, according to educational background and previous experience.
