Assistant Professor of Art: New Media / Feminist Discourse

The College of Design’s art and technology program encourages students to combine new media and visual art theory with strong technical sophistication, a rich sense of visual design, and an ability to articulate artistic research. 

The University of Oregon’s Department of Art invites applications for a tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor of Art specializing in New Media/Feminist Discourse to begin in fall 2019. We are seeking a new media artist whose work operates at the nexus of art, technology and feminist discourse. This position will teach in the Art & Technology program, with additional interdisciplinary opportunities, including graduate seminars, advanced studios and foundations. The successful candidate will exhibit a professional record that indicates a commitment to a sustained and developing creative practice. Previous college teaching experience is required. The applicant should have expertise in one or more of the following areas, in an art context: creative coding, animation, participatory practices, virtual and augmented reality, digital fabrication, robotics, or other emerging technologies. We seek a colleague who is interested in contributing to an established and progressive Art & Technology program. An MFA, or equivalent terminal degree is required. A complete application must include a cover letter outlining specific interests and qualifications, a CV including a listing of courses taught (with the possibility that syllabi may be requested later), an artist statement, a statement on teaching philosophy, and a statement addressing your contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion. A list of three references must be submitted at this time, with the possibility that letters and additional academic support materials will be requested at a later date.   

Additionally, candidates must submit a digital portfolio in the form 20 images/examples of the candidate’s own work, as well as 10 examples of student work; all image samples must include name, title, size, media, and date work was completed, and in the case of student work, include the course title. All digital portfolio materials are to be uploaded via Slideroom.
