Columbia University School of the Arts, Visual Arts Program seeks to fill the position of Assistant, Associate, or Professor (tenure-track research faculty) or Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Professional Practice (practice faculty), to teach graduate and undergraduate level courses, effective July 1, 2019.

The Program seeks faculty working in photography and related media with a vibrant studio practice and teaching experience to teach in the interdisciplinary context of the Columbia MFA Visual Arts Program. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to engage with all students in the MFA program regardless of medium and be conversant in critical issues and theoretic discussions in the art world.

Teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as active participation in departmental and University committees is expected. The successful candidate must be capable of service and leadership in the program and must demonstrate the potential for vision and direction that would be appropriate to a Discipline Director in the area of photography, a Director of Undergraduate or Graduate Studies for the Visual Arts Program, or a Program Chair for Visual Arts. (The successful candidate will serve rotating terms in one or more of these capacities in the future).

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, Masters degree or equivalent experience preferred. Graduate and undergraduate teaching experience preferred. A strong commitment to the teaching of artists must be in evidence.

The School of the Arts is especially interested in qualified candidates whose record of achievement will contribute to the diversity goals of the institution.
