Seeking full-time tenure track faculty

The University of Arizona seeks applicants for four full-time faculty positions within the School of Art to begin August 2019. The successful candidates will effectively demonstrate an active Research/Creative practice agenda coupled with a strong record of exhibitions and/or publications as required to seek tenure and promotion within the School of Art. Equally important is the candidate’s dedication to creating a dynamic classroom environment encouraging exploration across media and disciplines. Considering the University’s recent designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution and increasingly diverse student population, it is expected that the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to contribute to an inclusive learning environment for our students through teaching, mentorship and recruitment.

2-D, Painting and Drawing
Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure eligible) with an emphasis in painting
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an active studio practice with an emphasis in painting, and should be well-versed in contemporary and historical issues in painting and drawing. While the 2-D division provides a solid foundation in painting, drawing, and printmaking, significant emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches to studio art. Our students are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of techniques, materials, and ideas, both traditional and experimental. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in painting and drawing; however, we encourage applicants whose work blurs the lines between traditional 2-D media and expanded interpretations of the 2-D fields offered within the School of Art.

Art and Visual Culture Education
Full-time Assistant Professor (tenure eligible)
We seek candidates who have strengths in school-based art education and an ability to contribute to the Program’s areas of study in art teacher education, and community and museum education. The ideal candidate’s research and teaching will support the Program’s mission of promoting understanding of social justice, multiculturalism, and globalization issues in AVCE theory, research methods, and pedagogy.

Art History
Full-time Assistant Professor (tenure-eligible) with a research specialty in the history of photography
We are especially interested in candidates whose research takes a global perspective on the medium of photography, and envision that this candidate’s contributions will complement the University’s existing strengths in photographic studies and practices, including a respected PhD program, a top-ranked MFA program and the distinguished history of photographic research and exhibition associated with the Center for Creative Photography.

Illustration + Design
Full-time Assistant Professor (tenure eligible) beginning August 2019, with an emphasis in animation as a tool for visual storytelling
The I+D program focuses on the development of unique visual voices in the service of communication. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in animation and illustration that would include both traditional and digital media. Experience with other time-based formats, such as film, video, book arts, comics and the graphic novel will also be considered. The new faculty member will collaboratively develop an Illustration and Design curriculum with faculty that positions storytelling through animation as an integral focus for the future of illustrators, designers and their collaborative partners.
