The Hunter College MFA in Studio Art is an affordable three-year program designed to offer artists broad opportunities to develop their work in an environment that encourages experimentation, production, and critical dialogue.  MFA students work with Hunter’s exceptional full-time faculty in individual tutorials, small seminars focused on group critique and contemporary practice, and classes in the theory, criticism and history of art. Each semester, students meet with a full calendar of visiting artists, curators, and critics. Students also have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and curatorial staff on the development of public exhibitions at Hunter College’s four different galleries. These courses may be used toward the Curatorial Certificate, a new program within the Art and Art History Department.

Located at the corner of Hudson and Canal Streets in Tribeca, the Hunter MFA Program offers students extraordinary access to cultural riches and resources of New York City.  Immersion in the art world is crucial to our educational goal: the development of professional artists capable of continued creative and intellectual innovation far beyond the confines of the graduate school environment.

Full-time Studio Faculty: Drew Beattie, Andrea Blum, Daniel Bozhkov, A.K. Burns, Joel Carreiro, Susan Crile, Lisa Corinne Davis, Constance De Jong, Valerie Jaudon, Reiner Leist, Jeffrey Mongrain, Carrie Moyer, Paul Ramirez Jonas, Alexandro Segade, Juan Sanchez, Nari Ward, Thomas Weaver, Brian Wood

Visiting Studio Faculty 2018-19: Anthony Hawley, Clarity Haynes, EJ Hauser, Mary Mattingly, Dave McKenzie, Andrew Mockler, Cullen Washington

Faculty in Modern and Contemporary Art, Criticism, and Theory: Emily Braun, Thierry de Duve, Lynda Klich, Michael Lobel, Harper Montgomery, Antonella Pelizzari, Joachim Pissarro, Howard Singerman

Visiting artists, curators and critics: The Hunter College MFA program has an active schedule of visitors brought to campus and into graduate studios for talks and critiques. These visits are sponsored by the Zabar Visiting Artist Program, the Kossak Program in Painting, the Foundation To-Life Goldberg Curatorial Workshops, and Hunter’s MFA Student Organization (MFASO). For more information on all of this semester’s visitors, please visit our website.
