Seeking Head of Unit for Fine Arts and Crafts

In January 2020, Valand Academy and the Academy of Design and Crafts (HDK) at the University of Gothenburg will merge to form a new Department of Fine Arts and Design. We are seeking a visionary Head of Unit to lead the new Unit for Fine Arts and Crafts and develop cooperation between the two subject areas.

The focus of this position will be on developing and managing the unit through the merger. The tasks of the Head of Unit include: driving the change and development projects, participating in the management team, managing and supporting the teaching staff and coordinating the activities of the Unit with the rest of the University and with external collaboration partners.

This position also requires experience of developing and delivering artistic or curatorial projects and experience of teaching and developing programmes of study, including course content and forms of examination.

Special emphasis will be placed on managerial experience and a documented ability to manage staff and activities and the ability to successfully drive change processes. 

Emphasis will also be placed on teaching and artistic skills, where the following criteria in particular will be taken into account:

–Documented experience of developing and delivering artistic and/or curatorial projects
–The ability to manage and facilitate collaboration and group processes involving the arts and artists
–Documented experience of teaching in higher education contexts and experience in developing programmes of study, course content and forms of examination
–Experience in developing programmes of study in interdisciplinary contexts

The University environment is primarily Swedish-speaking, but the Unit for Fine Arts is in part international, which means you will need to be able to lead others and communicate in Swedish/Scandinavian and English, orally and in writing. If you do not speak Swedish, Swedish language courses will be offered to you.

If you have not completed a course of study in higher education teaching and learning, you will be expected to complete such a course or alternatively to validate equivalent skills that you may have.

About the position
The position is a fixed-term appointment for five years with the possibility of extending for a further five years. The title of the position is Lecturer in Artistic Practice. The University of Gothenburg allows you to seek promotion. 

The position will typically require presence in the workplace during normal office hours. It is located at Valand Academy during 2019 and from 2020 at the new Department.
