Art Souterrain is pleased to welcome you to the 11th edition of the Art Souterrain Festival. Our theme this year: “True or False.” The Festival will take place in Montréal from March 2-24.
Access to information has never been easier. Sources and tools have multiplied since the last decade. However, the density of editorial content is rarified as time goes on and the presence of journalism has become limited in its expressive capabilities. Citizens are becoming actors and occupying more places in unconventional Medias. Specialized information chains prioritize audience ratings over fastidious reports and researches. The appealing content and summaries of those new platforms are pushing us to question the veracity of their sources. It has become complex to distinguish the true from the false.
Three invited commissaries, Maude Arsenault, Martin Le Chevalier, Joyce Yahouda are bringing to light the workings of disinformation, the facets of imposture, the complex existence of beliefs inside our hyper-mediated society.
Performances, mediations and arts will be happening in various underground locations. Art Souterrain is thrilled to announce that the festival is collaborating with major local artists like Kim Waldron, Dominique Pétrin, Alexander Pilis, Bettina Hoffmann, Milutin Gubash.
International artists will also participate to this major artistic event: Philippe Ramette, Edward Hillel, Justin Langlois, Edward Hillel…
Art Souterrain Festival will allow you to wonder across the undergrounds and discover art in another way. The Art Souterrain Festival will exhibit 60 artists and performers all around Montréal: Complexe Guy-Favreau, Palais des Congrès, Édifice Jacques Parizeau, Centre de commerce mondial de Montréal, the 1000 de la Gauchetière, Arsenal Art Contemporain, Cinéma du Parc, Centre d’exposition Ubisoft, Institut Culturel du Mexique a Montréal, Maison de la Culture de Pointe-aux-Trembles, Maison de la culture de Verdun, Observatoire Ville-Marie.
The 11th edition of the UnderGround Art Festival will run from March 2 to 24, 2019.
About UnderGround Art
Art Souterrain or UnderGround Art is a non-profit organization, founded in 2009, whose mandate is to make contemporary art accessible to the public. In a spirit of demystifying artistic works and approaches, the organization carries out several annual projects that aim to educate the eye and create connections between works and their viewers.
To achieve its purposes, UnderGround Art relies on the proven approach of bringing art out of traditional exhibition spaces to create individual encounters. By exhibiting in unconventional spaces, the group hopes to surprise each and every passerby and stimulate new kinds of interactions.
