The Valais School of Art (édhéa) welcomes applications for the Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship. The scholarship is open to international artists who wish to complete a Master of Arts in Public Spheres at édhéa starting in the autumn 2019.
In a context of shifting art geographies, the Wyss Scholarship focuses on art scenes from the Global South and grants every year around four fellowships to eligible candidates.
The édhéa—Valais School of Art
Situated in Southern Switzerland, the édhéa offers a Bachelor in Fine Arts and the Master of Arts in Public Spheres (MAPS). With a strong tradition in practice-based research, the édhéa proposes a transdisciplinary and experimental approach to art that opens many doors beyond those of an artist’s studio. The focus on sound art, performance, environmental art, socially-engaged and community practices, prepares for a variety of professions in the fields of visual culture.
The striking Valais alpine situation provides a unique studying environment that is an ideal site for focused, in-depth studies and at the same time connected to the country’s major urban centres.
The Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship
The Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship covers school fees, accommodation, and a contributory stipend for prospective students of the Master of Arts in Public Spheres (MAPS).
Eligible candidates who are selected for the MAPS master program are considered for the scholarship by a mixed selection committee including representatives of the Hansjoerg Wyss and the MAPS faculty.
We welcome applications from artists up to 30 years of age. Sufficient knowledge of the English language for the Masters degree is a basic requirement to be able to work and discuss with students, professors and associates at the school. Knowledge of French is a plus.
The assessment of the applications is based on the quality of the portfolio and the research proposal; the consistency between the motivation to study in Switzerland, at the édhéa and the research proposal.
Candidates will be informed via e-mail of the results of the selection process.
