The Fondation Fiminco is launching its call for applications to transdisciplinary visual artists of any age from across the world for a residency in research, creation, and production based in Romainville (Seine-Saint-Denis), just east of Paris.
The Fondation Fiminco is a contemporary art space focused on international cross-disciplinary visual art.
The Fondation Fiminco will open its doors in Fall 2019 in a space set to bring together cultural players from both the public and private sectors: five contemporary art galleries (Air de Paris, Imane Farès, In Situ, Jocelyn Wolff, Vincent Sator), the storage collection of the Ile-de-France’s Regional Collection of Contemporary Art (FRAC), and the nonprofit organization Jeune Création. The Fondation’s facilities will also include La Chaufferie, a 1,200 m2 exhibition space which will host exhibitions and presentations by resident artists, guest artists, and partnering institutions.
Artists who have been awarded a residency will have access to studios (sound/video, photography, screen printing, intaglio printing, graphic arts, construction, mixed practices, dance studio), housing, and collective living spaces, as well as creative and technical support tailored to meet their needs and realize their projects. Support for securing additional funding from outside sources will be provided to endow each artist’s research and project, in addition to a production budget granted by the Fondation.
The Fondation Fiminco will also assist artists in developing professional networks and promoting their work.
For several decades now, the international contemporary art scene has been undergoing a deep transformation, that has retraced new geographies of art across the world and given rise to artistic forms with multidisciplinary sources and approaches. The Fondation Fiminco aims to guide and support emerging and established artists worldwide by drawing from this plural cartography and constantly evolving artistic diversity.
The residency’s goal is to build bridges between different art scenes and give artists the opportunity to confront their work to a variety of cultural, political, and social contexts, in order to enrich their practices and encourage the exchange of ideas.
Projects relating to the area the residency is held in (understood in the widest sense of the term: projects related to the institutions, organizations, communities, and researchers of Seine-Saint-Denis and Paris) and to its public are encouraged.
Artists will be awarded residencies based on applications selected by a committee consisting of art world professionals and representatives of the Fondation Fiminco.
Nine artists will be selected for the first session of the residency which starts in January 2020, and nine others will be selected for its second session, which starts in June 2020. The duration of each residency is 11 months.
