Please join Columbia GSAPP’s Dean, faculty, and students at the opening reception for the End of Year Show, showcasing a selection of exciting work created during the course of the year by GSAPP’s diverse and international student body spanning degree programs in Architecture; Urban Design; Urban Planning; Historic Preservation; and Critical, Curatorial, and Conceptual Practices. The expansive display of models, drawings, portfolios, videos, and installations throughout Avery and Fayerweather Halls reflects Columbia GSAPP’s leading role in architectural education and captures the school’s commitment to combining disciplinary expertise with critical examination and playful discovery.
Among the many highlights in this year’s edition are selected models from the graduating Master of Architecture and Advanced Architectural Design students, displayed on the 400 level of Avery Hall; Urban Design and Urban Planning installations in their newly renovated studio spaces in Fayerweather Hall; and the collaborative outcomes of the Visual Studies and Building Technology sequences that reflect the school’s focus on building a new “Viz-Tech” curriculum to provide students skills in emerging technologies at the intersection of the digital and the physical.
The exhibition also features student research and models produced for the course “Never Built Paris,” which examines five centuries of unbuilt architectural and urban schemes for the French capital for an upcoming book and exhibition of the same title, and follows Columbia GSAPP’s participation in the Never Built New York exhibition at the Queens Museum in 2017. A group of six-foot-tall models produced for the Advanced Architecture Studio of Ada Tolla and Giuseppe Lignano (LOT-EK) occupies the Ware Lounge of Avery Hall.
The exhibition is organized by GSAPP Exhibitions in collaboration with academic program directors, faculty, students, and the GSAPP Making Studio.
Exhibition hours:
Saturday, opening reception: 5pm-7pm
Sunday-Thursday: 12pm-6pm
