Bank Street College of Education, in partnership with the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, is pleased to announce a five-year renewal of Kress Fellowships in Museum Leadership. This opportunity supports enrollment in our Leadership in Museum Education Program in New York City for one incoming student and one continuing student annually. The fellowships are awarded to students working in art institutions who have been accepted into the program in late spring/early summer.

Our Leadership in Museum Education program (MSEd) is designed to enhance and expand the skills and dispositions of professionals already working in the field and takes place in NYC one weekend a month and for five days in June over two years.

It is designed for emerging educators from a range of non-profit and cultural organizations. The program shares with other Bank Street graduate programs an emphasis on reflective practice, a progressive stance towards the social dimension of museums, and advocacy for greater access and inclusion.

One year of the program focuses on learning and public engagement, human development, diversity, collaboration and interpretation in informal learning environments. Another year focuses more on managing and leading in the organization, including consideration of fundraising and development, organizational structures and communication, marketing, strategy, change, visitor research, finance, ethics and organizational development.

Courses are taught by practitioners and consultants from the field. Course assignments are often undertaken at the student’s workplace, solidifying the connection between theory and practice.

Each student is assigned an adviser who offers regular coaching and feedback on their working practice and professional development.

For more information, please contact Brian Hogarth, our Program Director, at bhogarth [at] bankstreet.edu or at T 212 875 4704.
