ARTBO | International Art Fair of Bogota will celebrate its 15th anniversary from September 19th to the 22nd, 2019, presenting 67 galleries from 17 countries, as well as five curatorial proposals as part of the sections Proyectos, Referentes, Artecámara, Articularte and Libro de Artista. The fair brings together national and international galleries, curators, artists, and artworks in different formats and media, focusing on quality and diversity, to provide the public with one of the most refreshing and cutting-edge perspectives on contemporary art in Latin America.

Curated by Aaron Cezar (Director, Delfina Foundation, London, United Kingdom), Proyectos will present 11 projects by renowned contemporary artists: Manuel Mendoza Sánchez (Embajada, San Juan, Puerto Rico), Andrea Galvani (Revolver, Lima, Peru - Buenos Aires, Argentina), Iván Navarro (Sketch, Bogota, Colombia), José Alejandro Restrepo and María Teresa Hincapié (Rolf Art, Buenos Aires, Argentina), Nicolás Paris (Elba Benítez, Madrid, Spain), Donna Conlon (DiabloRosso, Panama City, Panama), Julieth Morales (Espacio El Dorado, Bogota, Colombia), Carlos Castro (LA Galería, Bogota, Colombia), William Mackrell (Krinzinger Projekte, Vienna, Austria - The RYDER Projects, London, United Kingdom), Johanna Calle (Galería Moisés Pérez de Albéniz MPA, Madrid, Spain) and Fernando Arias (FORO.SPACE, Bogota, Colombia).

Curated by Krist Gruijthuijsen (Director, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Germany), Referentes—a section that explores the works of artists who changed paradigms, thus becoming references for contemporary art—will trace Colombia’s artistic networks through a multi-generational dialogue. Artists Beatriz González, Óscar Muñoz, Nicolás Paris and Adriana Martínez will be the departure point of this curatorial proposal, that follows each of their inspiration within Colombia, whether it’s an artist, an artwork, a piece of music or literature, which automatically lead to the next person, whom was requested to do the same.

Curated by Helena Producciones, a Cali-based artist collective founded in 1998, Artecámara is a section dedicated to young artists with no commercial representation who are selected through a national and open call for applications. Titled Del por qué los venenos son amargos, the section will present 27 proposals calling major societal challenges into question: corruption, inequality, looting, exploitation of human and cultural resources, and the progressive destruction of the environment.

This year, Foro, a space that presents panel discussions on topics related to contemporary art, will be structured around the theme “15 years of ARTBO,” featuring 32 panelists and 11 talks concerning the recent transformation of the art scene. “Could Have, Would Have, Should Have: 15 Years of Collecting Latin American Art,” “15 Years of Art in Writing” and “15 Years of Colombia Through the International Lens,” are a few of the titles that make up this year’s proposal.

A section for large-scale artworks, projects or actions intended to generate dialogue with visitors of the fair, will feature works by Alfredo Jaar (Galeria Luisa Strina, São Paulo, Brazil), Juan David Laserna (RINCÓN, Bogota, Colombia), Nicolás Robbio (VERMELHO, São Paulo, Brazil), Óscar Abraham Pabón (El Museo / Galería Fernando Pradilla, Bogota, Colombia—Madrid, Spain), Pedro Gómez-Egaña (Zilberman, Istanbul, Turkey—Berlin, Germany).

Other sections of the fair include Libro de Artista, with the curatorial proposal Reflection and Refraction, in charge of Relámpago; and Articularte, a cultural and educational space devoted to plastic and visual arts, with the curatorial intervention of NC-Arte.
