MDE Expanded
The International Art Encounter of Medellin (MDE) is one of Colombia’s biggest art events. Organized by the Museo de Antioquia, it takes place in Medellin, Colombia, every four years. The Encounter activates the city’s cultural life and makes visible artistic processes that range from the production of conventional or exhibited work to the results of community-based practices that may not normally be considered suitable for viewing in traditional exhibition venues. This year’s edition, MDE15, focuses on the theme of Local Stories / Global Practices.
Beyond its official agenda, the Encounter will open a space for alternative activities called MDE Expanded. This program will combine institutional, artistic and academic initiatives from Medellin’s contemporary art field. All these initiatives propose a thematic approach to the spirit of the event: each is linked to MDE Expanded, which will highlight the activities offered by the contemporary art scene of the city. In turn, they will offer the visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in MDE15′s theme, Local Stories / Global Practices.
The MDE Expanded will receive these initiatives categorized in the following formats throughout the city during MDE15:
1. Seminars / Talks / Workshops
2. Events / Exhibitions / Interventions
3. Research / Publications
Institutions including Universidad de Antioquia, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano, Fundación Universitaria Bellas Artes, Centro de Desarrollo Cultural de Moravia, and the Museo Casa de la Memoria will be part of MDE Expanded’s programming, completing the activities of The International Art Encounter of Medellin, which will take place from October 2015 to March 2016.
