Within this vibrant context, Tate Britain houses the greatest collection of British art in the world and plays a significant role in promoting and championing the value of British art and artists locally, nationally and globally. As the Director of Tate Britain, you will develop the vision and role of Tate Britain as a vital part of the cultural life of London, the UK and the world by inspiring, increasing and diversifying the gallery’s audiences through an imaginative programme in a public space where people from all sections of society feel welcome. Reporting to the Director of Tate, Sir Nicholas Serota, the Director of Tate Britain will also be a member of Tate’s Executive Group and contribute to the delivery and shape of Tate’s overall strategy.
In order to succeed, you will be an inspirational, inclusive and creative leader with an imaginative and flexible approach to achieving outstanding results. The role requires the skill to engage wide and diverse audiences in art, a deep understanding of British art and culture, together with the ability to see and to communicate connections beyond the fine arts and into all areas of historical, modern and contemporary culture. A spokesperson for British art and artists, you will have the ability to represent Tate Britain at home and abroad, and will be passionate about the importance of Tate Britain to the cultural life of the UK.
