Flags is the first exhibition organized by Studio Fabio Mauri, Associazione per L’Arte L’Esperimento del Mondo. The Association aims to promote young artists and to disseminate art through educational activities.
Fabio Mauri (1926–2009) is a key figure in the postwar European cultural scenario, his investigation reflects on systems of power, the dictatorship of ideologies and history. The leitmotif of his production is the manipulative nature of communication and media as exemplified by fascist propaganda. His artistic research is comprised of objects, ephemeral performance, projections, and essays. Fabio Mauri’s artistic relationship to the seven artists in the exhibition, some of whom were born more than 40 years later, takes the form of a group analysis of reality read through an individual’s critical sense.
La Resa (The Surrender), 2002, by Fabio Mauri, is both a real and an ideal start to such a procedure and will be presented alongside works by Ivan Barlafante (b. 1967, Giulianova), David Rickard (b. 1975, New Zealand), Rä di Martino (b. 1975, Rome), Alessandro Sambini (b. 1982, Rovigo), Elisa Strinna (b. 1982, Padua), Fabrizio Cotognini (b. 1983, Macerata), and Ruben Montini (b. 1986, Oristano).

SUPERCOMMUNITY KIOSK: e-flux journal issue 65
e-flux journal has been invited to participate in the Venice Biennale this year. For their contribution they’ve decided to address e-flux journal and its readership as the supercommunity. Under this premise the editors will create a single issue of the journal spanning from May to September, with one piece of writing released each day. Departing from the journal’s usual essayistic format, the contents of this issue will also include poetry, short fiction, plays, and screenplays, by nearly 100 authors. At Serra dei Giardini, e-flux journal will present a kiosk where visitors can pick up this special edition and other issues of the journal in print.
Creative Time Summit
From August 10 to 13, Microclima and the Serra Dei Giardini will be working with New York-based public arts organization Creative Time to host special evening programs as part of The 2015 Creative Time Summit: The Curriculum at the Venice Biennale. The Creative Time Summit is an international conference on art and politics. Exploring a critical topic every year, it seeks to build a field of artists, activists, curators, scholars, and policymakers dedicated to addressing the most challenging issues of our times.
Microclima is a cultural program at Venice’s Serra dei Giardini. Microclima focuses on research between art, nature and the public sphere.
