The MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst is continuing its series of talks titled “The Artists,” in which artists who are represented in the MMK Collection or are in a long-term relationship to the MMK will engage in discussions with curators and critics.

Wednesday, 29 April, 8pm at the MMK 2
Barbara Klemm, Anne-Marie Beckmann and Barbara Basting talk about the work of Anja Niedringhaus
The images produced by the photojournalist Anja Niedringhaus (1965–2014) over the past two decades in Albania, Bosnia, Iraq and elsewhere are part of the MMK’s extensive photography collection.

Niedringhaus’s powerful pictorial language will be discussed by the prominent German photographer Barbara Klemm, Anne-Marie Beckmann, the longstanding curator of the Art Collection Deutsche Börse, and Barbara Basting, a journalist and the director of the Department of Visual Arts of the city of Zürich.

Wednesday, 20 May, 8pm at the MMK 2
Anne Imhof in conversation with Isabelle Graw (in German)
Anne Imhof (b. 1978) develops her work in a realm where performance, installation and documentation overlap. Her work Aus der Pranke des Löwen / From the Paw of the Lion (2012) is on view in the exhibition Boom She Boom at the MMK’s new branch, the MMK 2. This year she designed a “live event” of several days for the MoMA PS1 in New York. Anne Imhof was also nominated for the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2015.

The former Städelschule student will converse with the art historian Isabelle Graw, director of the Städelschule’s Institute of Art Criticism and publisher of the magazine Texte zur Kunst.

Friday, 12 June, 7pm at the MMK 1
Simon Starling in conversation with Katrina Brown (in English)
In his artistic practice, Simon Starling (b. 1967) concerns himself with objects, their history, and their production conditions as shaped by science, ecology and economy. In the summer of 2015, he will be participating in the RAY Fotografieprojekte RheinMain exhibition Imagine Reality at the MMK 1 with a room installation.

Katrina Brown, the director of The Common Guild, a well-known institution for contemporary art in Glasgow, who has also curated exhibitions of Starling’s in the past and is presently collaborating with him on a project, will talk with the artist about his works.

Wednesday, 23 September, 7pm at the MMK 1
Thomas Bayrle and Paul Maenz talk about Peter Roehr (in German)
Paul Maenz, a collector and patron of Peter Roehr (1944‒1968) donated the Frankfurt concept artist’s entire archive to the MMK in 2011. The museum has digitalized the documents in the Peter Roehr Archive, which number more than 2,500, and made them accessible to the public over the past months.

Paul Maenz and the artist Thomas Bayrle, who was friends with Roehr for many years, will talk about the artist and his time.

Wednesday, 18 November, 7pm at the MMK 1
William Forsythe in conversation with Mario Kramer (in English)
Hardly anyone has contributed more to shaping the international contemporary dance scene over the past decades than the choreographer and dancer William Forsythe (b. 1949). In addition to his dance performances for Ballet Frankfurt and, since 2005, for The Forsythe Company, he has created large-scale installations, which will be presented at the MMK in the autumn of 2015 in dialogue with the collection.

The conversation about dance, art, space and, not least importantly the human being—as the chief focus of Forsythe’s minimalistic works—will be conducted by Mario Kramer, curator of the exhibition and head of the MMK Collection.

Tuesday, 1 December, 7pm at the MMK 2
Kostas Murkudis in conversation with Julia Voss (in German)
Artistic approaches and working methods have had a decisive impact on the œuvre of the fashion designer Kostas Murkudis (b. 1959). In-depth research and inspirations from architecture are further aspects that surface again and again in his work. In 2013, the fashion designer donated large portions of his archive, including many original designs and prototypes, to the MMK Collection. In the context of the second exhibition at the new MMK 2, Murkudis will meet with Julia Voss, deputy director of the arts section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, to talk about concepts and forms of display as well as the history of his collections.
